Happy New Year everyone! It's been a couple months since Ghetto 30 and I've been quiet around here. I'll get the pictures and recap up soon. I have a lot to say about the last lanparty and the myriad of things we have to change in 2010. New website, internet at the lanparty, more help, better organization, etc. We have had the same recipe for Ghetto the past 10 years, it's finally time to change things up for the good.
Give me time. I've been on a job hunt since I graduated. You'll all be happy with the results.

FIRST, DON'T FORGET A POWER STRIP! People forget this item a lot, and all we run to the table is an extension cord. We don't have the money to buy 250 power strips, so don't forget! Also go through the checklist below of everything else to bring, you'd be surprised what you might be forgetting. :)
**************************************
Security and Check-in Procedure
**************************************
In
order to keep us from being banned from renting the Civic Center, no one is
allowed in the public park next to the Civic Center after 10pm, and no one
should be out around random parts outside the building. The police check the
parks after they close at 10pm so watch out.
When you arrive at the Civic Center, please come and check in at the front desk.
You will receive a wristband to prove you gave us your small entrance fee of
$15. We only accept cash, no bouncy checks like we have before. We do hand
checks throughout the night, and have embarrassed many gamers over the past
lanparties who have tried to pull one over on us. We make do not make any profit
at these events, and many times we lose money, so please help us out. The room
rental alone at GL30 is $1,830. Yes, I personally lose money every event.

Directions to the Denton Civic Center!

Take a RIGHT on PERL street, you will see a NORTHSTAR BANK on the corner where you should be turning. Stay on PERL STREET which turns into MCKINNEY street, you will pass through a stoplight and after that will see the Civic Center on your left. REFRESHMENTS/FOOD
**************************************
Mr. Jims is providing the food this time around,
because I got tired of cold crappily made Dominos pizzas.
The same still applies, $5 will get you half of a large pizza with ONE of the
below toppings. This time we have more choices than the 3 Dominos always gives
us.
Sausage, beef, pepperoni, cheese only, chicken, canadian bacon, regular bacon,
cheddar cheese, bell pepper, onion, black olive, green olive.
Simply pick a topping, give us $5, and your food will arrive in the evening. We
will also have the full menu from Mr.
Jims so if you want a salad or wings or something else, we can do that too.
Otherwise you may also leave the Civic Center and venture around Denton for food
and drinks.
We will have Dr. Pepper and Coca-Cola products on ice as always, free for
everyone.
We will have Bawls, Rockstar, Gatorade, and other caffeine related products for
sale to keep you folks awake.
BRING YOUR OWN (If you want) cooler of energy drinks, regular drinks, or food.
We encourage this. It's hard to stay up late into the night without some
caffeine, so grab a case of Monster, RedBull, Bawls, whatever at Walmart on the
way and a foam cooler with some ice. You'll be glad you did.
**************************************
WHAT WILL BE PROVIDED TO YOU!
**************************************
A seat at a table, 3 people per 8 foot table
A 10/100 switched network connection with the network cable
POWER! However, you will need a power strip to plug into the extension cord
All the drinks you may want throughout the night
A loving nerdy staff to help you make it all work
**************************************
Console Gamers (Xbox, Xbox360, PS2, PS3, etc.)
**************************************
For you console gamers, we will have an area for you guys to come game. Please
bring your TVs and consoles up to the Civic Center for some gaming. We realize
not all of us gamers stick to the keyboard these days. The same $15 entry fee
applies to each one of you guys though. We can't afford to rent this building as
it is. Please help us out.
**************************************
Tentative Schedule

Frequently Asked Questions
**************************************
What is the earliest we can come to the lanparty? Due to setting up the network, tables, etc., we ask that you please don't arrive earlier than 1 PM. People setting up their computers while we are still trying to set up tables is a real pain.
What if I didn't get signed up in time, can I still come? If you realize you haven't signed up, but would still like to come, this is not a problem. We have plenty of room in the Civic Center. Come on out, even if it's late in the day.
What are all the prices for a Ghetto Lanparty? The only required is the $15 entry fee, this covers your seat, power, network, and unlimited drinks. Options include ($5 for half a large 1 topping pizza, $5 entry fee for Counter-Strike tournament, $1.50 cold bottle of Bawls, $.50 misc. candy items)
Where else can I eat if I don't want pizza? There are many different places to eat in Denton. The closest is a Golden Chick next to the Civic Center, for anything else you will have to just drive throughout Denton. We try to keep it so you don't have to leave the Civic Center if you don't want to, by bringing in pizza and lots of drinks.
How do the Counter-Strike tournament, and other tournaments work? Signups for these tournaments are taken AT the lanparty. We will call for them over the PA system. If you don't have a full team, or you want to join a team, simply tell us when we call for signups. Then we can try and get a team formed for you. The Counter-Strike tournament has a $5 per person fee which goes towards the tournament winners prizes. The Battlefield 1942 and any other tournaments are all free for everyone.
What if I don't have the games installed on my computer? Most every game can be procured from our GameFiles server. Instructions on how to do this come on your sheet you get when you come in the door, as well as on the in-lan webpage.
I have another question, do you have the answer? Most likely, reply to this email up until Saturday morning and I will be able to answer. Also you can call text my phone and I will get back to you. You can also call but I might not be able to answer because my phone is dying and I don't have an iPhone yet.

CONTACT INFO
**************************************
To call me, SuperCricket, a.k.a. Kyle, call
817/713-7472 and ask for Kyle or SuperCricket
I will have this phone on ALL day but prefer a text message to a phone call. If you get really lost trying to find the Civic Center then call of course. If you also need to give a relative/parent a phone number for a contact at the lan, you may give them this number as well. :)

Ghetto Lanparty 30 THIS WEEKEND!
Make sure you are signed up!

Thermaltake sent us some goodies for Ghetto 30 and I thought this CPU cooler was hilarious. Thermaltake is the best at CPU and case cooling stuff, but look at the size of this thing! I had to throw a Dr. Pepper can and a standard P4 CPU cooler next to it just to show how huge this thing is. Sweet.
Also as a change from past lanparties we will be going with the good food from Mr. Jims for this lanparty. The same $5 will get you half of a large one topping pizza, but we will also be offering the full menu. So if you drag your poor girlfriend along and she wants a salad you can do that, or order up some wings or some other random pizza if you want. Orders will be taken at the door like usual and will arrive around 8-9pm at the Civic Center.
Our buddy Orion from the Texan Gamer will be helping us out with tournament happenings and also selling snacks and Bawls to help keep you folks alive at the party. So bring a little extra change if you are so inclined. We will have our standard sodas and coffee for free like usual. |

Monday, October 29th, 2009 - Wake Island Demo At GL30 - Discuss On Our Message Board Here
![]()

| If for some reason you lived
in a hole the last 5 years, or you are just a total n00b and never
experienced Battlefield 1942... read the following excerpt. The Wake Island demo, released in 2002, was a milestone in video gaming. Many of us know Wake Island like the back of our hand. Just like Doom was a revelation, so too was that demo. It was a triumph of map design and game play, offering a playground for soldiers, tanks, ships, airplanes, and submarines. It was something we'd never seen before and it changed the way shooters were made and played. From the Wake Island demo on, every first person shooter had to deal with questions like "Hey, can I get in that vehicle and drive it?" or "Can I fly over the level in an airplane?" At Quakecon 2002 we all played Wake Island for pretty much the 3 days straight. It was probably the most fun I've had at a lanparty in the past 10 years. Wake Island was so good that Electronic Arts just released the same thing this Summer on their newer graphics engine. However it costs $14 to buy and I know you are all cheap-asses like me. So we will roll the free old school Wake Island demo. It's only 130 megs so you don't have to install the full 2 gig Battlefield 1942. I'll have the fileservers ready for you to download it at the lanparty. It will be awesome. So bring your friends and lets kill the hell out of each other on Wake Island.

Ghetto Lanparty 30 In 2 Weeks!

Our console section of the room will be better, and these guys know what they are doing. So like always, if you want to bring your PS3, Xbox, Wii, whatever along with your computer, go for it!
Combining their console event with ours will help everyone out. Jim, Jarrett, Chuck, Jeff, and I can concentrate on the network and all the PC gamers while the North Texas Halo guys keep tabs on the console folk.
Just like the PC game tournaments, you can choose to play in a console tournament or simply play for fun. If you have any questions about the arrangements or tournaments send me an email (SuperCricket@ghettolanparty.com).

I thought this was cool. Here is a scatter plot of the current signups and where you nerds are coming from. Looks like a lot of Houston, Oklahoma, and Austin representation, and of course a ton of D/FW. Awesome. We are set to go for the last round of CS1.6, Quake 3, Team Fortress 2, Street Fighter 4, Halo, and Guitar Hero for 2009. Remember you can play in any of these tournaments for fun, or just come to game and fileswap and goof around like many people do. The weather is dreary and getting cold, and it keeps getting darker earlier and earlier. The time will also change in a couple weeks, so by November 7th it will be the PERFECT lanparty time. Honestly, I like the cold dark winter lanparties better than the ones in the summer.
So remember, our historic Ghetto Lanparty 30 is the week after Halloween. Sign up now and get your spot. If you have any questions shoot me an email or message me on AIM: Cricket414. Party on.
